This was my first commission and I absolutely loved doing it. My lovely friend Kelda had a dinning table that had been in her family for over 30 years, but it was the old orange pine and she really wanted to modernize it. She gave me a brief that she wanted it to be greys, but other than hat was more than happy for me to do my thing! I began by sanding all the orange pine from the top of the table and stripped it right back to the bare wood so I had a blank canvas. As it's a kitchen table I know it'll be heavily used so I wanted to give it a hard wearing surface, but didn't want to cover up the beautiful grain of the wood, so I gave it a pale white wash and then about 5 coats of Ronseal water based clear satin varnish. The chairs were a satisfying challenge, there were 6 of them and I began by sugar soap washing them to remove any grease marks, I then undercoated each one, then gave them two coats of Rustin's Georgian Grey paint and three coats of the Ronseal satin varnish, I was very pleased with the finished product and Kelda was extremely happy which is the main thing. I quote from her Facebook post: "Absolutely love an old family table Re-refind by Mandy Barnfather thank you so much! I love it! Now can be kept in the family for another 30 years!" It just made me so happy to have fulfilled the brief. She's currently looking for a bench for me to do up to match, another satisfied customer!
