South African Drawers

My very good friend Lara (of the dresser and bar fame, see previous blogs) gave me another beautiful piece of furniture that she wanted matching in with the other pieces I'd rerefind for her. Beautiful as the drawers were the back was in need of some TLC, having looked at it I decided it needed replacing, not my area of expertise! So I had to ask my husband Phil for his assistance, he was very obliging and we bought and replaced the back panels. One of the doors also needed some wood filler to smooth it out. The rest, I rubbed down and chose to paint the drawers, doors and back in the same Rustoleum Winter Grey chalk paint that I had used previously. I then stained the top and side panels with the same white ash matt that I had used on her other pieces. In order for it to match in I took the furnishings off the and painted them in the gold that I had used on her dresser. I think the end result is a real transformation and Lara loved it too.
